Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A) In April in Israel photographer Menahem Kahana took a photo of the missiles launching. when the image appeared in Yated Neeman, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper someone had fooled with the image.

B) This photo editing is unethical because this can cause a serious problem with other people and even  other countries.

A) Its the most unethical because it makes the soldier look bad by making him look like he's yelling at the man with the kid.

B) This is the most least unethical because all they did was make the image look better, its not offending anyone.

National Geographic Warm-up

This is my favorite photo because it looks cool. I've never seen something like this before. I don't know what it is but its interesting and looks cool.

I would take a picture of a bullet leaving the barrel of a pistol and submit it to the photo conest.

Touching People

1. What do you think about this project and photo essay?
*I thought it was all interesting and all kinda weird.

2. What would you do if someone approached you with a camera and asked you to participate in a photo shoot and then asked you to touch a stranger?
*I would be like what the heck and say no and walk away.

3. Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
*To go out and ask people to hug random strangers.

4. Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, are the photos good? Do you like looking at them?
* I thought it was all weird, Yeah i thought the photos were good because i thought the strangers knew each other, Not really.

40 greatest photos

                       Photographer: Joe O’Donnelln

I chose this photo because it shows John F Kennedy's son saluting his fathers coffin on his funeral. What caught my eye was when his son was with the saluting guard when they were all saluting the presidents coffin after he was assassinated. I think this photo is on the 40 greatest because it shows how strong JFK Jr is saluting his dad.

                          Photographer: A US Soldier/ Photographer

I chose this photo because it shows US Troops being deployed on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Germany(D DAY). The Photo was very interesting because it shows the invasion of Omaha Beach a important day in our history. I think this photo is on the 40 greatest because it shows a war that was the biggest world war that had a LOT of casualties and a day that is important in our history.

                       Photographer: Justin Lane-Pool

I chose this photo because its sad and interesting. This guy lost his son in 9/11 and he found his sons name and started to cry on the 10th year anniversary of 9/11. I think this photo was in the 40 greatest because its a touching photo and it happened 10 years after a day that will never be forgot.

Great Black And White Photographers Part 2

Robert Adams

Robert Adams was born on May 8 1937 in Orange New Jersey. At age 12 Adams contracted polio in his back, left arm, and hand but was able to recover. Adams enrolled in the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1955, and attended it for his freshman year, but decided to transfer the next year to the University of Redlands in California where he received his B.A. in English from Redlands in 1959. He continued his graduate studies at University of South California the and he received his Ph.D. in English in 1965.In 1962 they moved back to Colorado, and Adams began teaching English at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. In 1963, Adams bought a 35mm reflex camera and began to take pictures mostly of nature and architecture. He soon read complete sets of Camera Work and Aperture at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. He learned photographic technique from Myron Wood, a professional photographer who lived in Colorado. While finishing his dissertation, he began to photograph in 1964. In 1967, he began to teach only part-time in order to have more time to photograph. He met John Szarkowski on a trip to New York City in 1969. The museum later bought four of his prints. In 1970, he began working as a full-time photographer.

Camera History And Information.

1. The effect came to be known as the camera obscura. This was the first camera, the hole acted like a lens, focusing and projecting light onto the wall of the dark chamber.

2.In the 17th century, the modern camera came one step closer when Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens perfected the understanding of optics and the process of making high quality glass lenses.

3. The parts in the first modern camera had a glass lens, a dark box, and film.

4. They both pass light through the lens, into the camera, and exposes the film. The end result is still a photograph.

5. Digital cameras replaced old-fashioned plastic film, digital cameras capture the images with an electronic sensor called a CCD. Photographs are stored on reusable computer memory devices.

6. In Auto Mode the camera will completely control flash and exposure. In Program Mode there is an automatic-assist, just point and shoot. Unlike full auto mode.

7.The Portrait Mode is used to attempt to blur out the background. The camera will try to use the fastest available lens setting which is aperture.

8. The sports mode is used to to freeze motion. The camera will use the highest shutter speed possible.

9.If the subject is off centre, the auto-focus may be fooled. A half-press will tell the camera that you're almost ready to take a shot and to be prepared, triggering the following things to happen.

10. Disabled Flash is no flash. There are alot of cases where you may not want flash. The mood of the photograph can sometimes be more dramatic when the natural light is used.

11.  The Auto Flash is in most camera modes, Auto flash is enabled by default and will automatically fire if the camera thinks it needs more light.

12. If there is too much light and the picture will be washed out.

13. If there is not enough light and the picture is too dark. A good photograph depends on the exposure settings that will give the film the right  amount of exposure.

14. STOP is used in every aspect of photography to represent a relative change in the brightness of light.

15. 4 Stops

16. 8 Stops

17. Longer shutter speed means more light.

18. Shorter shutter speed means less light.

19. The aperture is like a pupil. You can control the aperture by setting the Aperture Opening, also known as an F-Stop.

20. You can control the aperture by setting the "Aperture Opening", also known as an F-Stop.

The Camera

Aperture- is a hole or an opening through which lights travels. More specifically, the aperture of an optical system is the opening that determines the cone angle of a bundle of rays that come to a focus in the image plane.

Shutter- s a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light-sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.

Exosure-is the amount of light allowed to fall on each area during the process of taking a photo. Exposure is measured in seconds, and can be computed from exposure value.

Depth of field- is the distance between the nearest and fartherst objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.

The Best And Worst Pictures I Took.

This was one of the best pictures i took because I took it at a good angle. Nothing is in the way so you can see the models. On this picture i used the zoom on the camera.

I didn't really like this picture because I was too far away, I didn't use the zoom on the camera. I also didn't get the other guy in the picture, only got his arm.
